Rapist Jailed For Jersey Hotel Sex Attack

A violent rapist, who locked his victim in a Jersey hotel room and subjected her to a terrifying ordeal that lasted through the night, has been jailed for 14 years.

Police say Terence Martin Quinn committed an abhorrent attack that left the woman fearing for her life.

The 49 year old imprisoned her in a room at the Oaklands Lodge, where he worked, telling her to stay in the corner.

During the sustained attack, he threw her luggage and laptop at her and smashed her phone.

He beat her, dragged her by the hair and raped her, then causally dropped her back at the airport the next day for her flight home.

Quinn, who fled to the UK after his arrest - was found guilty at trial last November of rape, false imprisonment and common assault.

Jersey Police worked with colleagues in the UK to bring him back to the island to face justice.

As well as the jail term imposed by the Royal Court, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register and given an Indefinite Restraining Order

Detective Constable Rachel Peddlebanks says she cannot commend the victim in this case enough.

"She has shown immense courage and bravery in coming forward to report this abhorrent attack and she has seen the whole process through with strength and dignity.

The impact this attack has had on her is enormous and I can only hope that the sentence given today gives her some form of closure and will help her to gain her confidence and move forward in rebuilding her life.

We are committed to investigating and prosecuting all sexual offenders and we want to assure victims that there are a number of agencies who are in a position to offer support and guidance through all stages of the criminal justice process."
