A landslip caused by prolonged heavy rain has closed part of Jersey's Railway Walk.
The popular track has been closed as a precaution from the Pont Marquet dip, at the traffic‑light‑controlled pedestrian crossing, to the point where the path meets St Aubin’s Hill, at the small car park near the language school (end of the 20mph zone).
It has been closed since Thursday 19 February, following prolonged heavy rain.
Today (20 February), Infrastructure and Environment have shared that there is 'still risk of further collapse', adding that it remains 'extremely unsafe.'
They reiterate that it remains closed with barriers in place, and that islanders should avoid the area.
Islanders are advised to avoid the area entirely.
There is no through route from Les Quennevais to St. Aubin.
The path is expected to be closed for several weeks, and islanders are thanked for their patience.
The damage has been caused by water channelling beneath the Railway Walk following a long wet spell of weather.
Between 62-65 millimetres of rain was recorded by Jersey Met between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
A further 30 millimetres fell on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Jersey Met says the rainfall totals for January and February make it the wettest start to a year on record and, with ten days left of winter it is already the eighth wettest winter since records began.
