Jersey Police Chief appointed Chair of Opera House

Jersey's Chief of Police is now also the chair of the Jersey Opera House.

Jersey's most senior police officer is taking on a very different role, combining co-ordinating the island's policing with enhancing its performing arts.

Robin Smith, who has led States of Jersey Police since 2020, succeeds Laura Robertson, who has been interim chair for the past year.

JOH says the Police Chief brings extensive leadership, governance, and public service to the role - and that his deep understanding of Jersey will help to strengthen its role as one of the island's most treasured cultural institutions.

Laura Robertson welcomed him to the role:

"Robin brings a wealth of leadership experience and a strong commitment to the Island community, and I have every confidence that Sebastian (Warrack, the theatre's CEO) and Robin will make for a strong leadership partnership.

"I look forward to continuing to support them and Jersey Opera House build on the momentum of its successful reopening and deliver great cultural experiences for Jersey."

The historic theatre reopened in 2025 after being closed for around five years for a major £13m refurbishment.

Sebastian Warrack, CEO of Jersey Opera House, has welcomed Mr Smith's appointment.

Robin Smith says he has already received a warm welcome.

"As an Island community, the Opera House plays a uniquely important role in bringing people together and enriching our shared cultural life.

"I am very much looking forward to working with the Board, the executive team led by Sebastian, and in particular the staff and volunteers whose commitment and passion are at the heart of the organisation."
