Pair convicted after attack outside Jersey Islamic Centre

A man and woman have been convicted after members of Jersey's Muslim Community were assaulted and verbally abused outside the Jersey Islamic Centre.

Jersey Police were called at around 2pm on Friday 6 March 2026, following reports of disorder outside the entrance of the centre.

Officers were told that a woman had assaulted several members of the public, while a man had verbally abused people attending the centre.

The incident was treated by police as a hate crime.

Jade Hamon, 52, was arrested nearby on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and charged later the same day.

Tamara Dubois, 37, was subsequently identified and arrested the following day. She was then charged with three counts of assault and disorderly conduct.

Hamon was found guilty of disorderly conduct, and Dubois was found guilty of all charges she faced.

The officer in charge of the investigation, DC James Simpson, said:

"This incident targeted people attending a place of worship and had a profound impact on many within Jersey's Muslim community.

"Following the incident, officers worked closely with the Jersey Islamic Centre and community representatives to provide reassurance and support. We also saw communities across Jersey come together in support of those affected, sending a clear message that intimidation, abuse and violence have no place in our Island.

"I would like to thank the victims, witnesses and members of the public who came forward to support our enquiries. The evidence they provided was instrumental in securing these convictions.

"Everyone should be able to attend their place of worship free from intimidation, abuse or violence. We welcome today's verdict and hope it provides reassurance that those responsible will be held accountable."

The leader of Jersey's Muslim community, Dr Sarfraz Jamali, said:

"While this incident had a significant impact on many within our community, we were very grateful for the support shown from across Jersey.

"The case has now come to an end and our focus is on moving forward.

"I would like to thank the States of Jersey Police, and the many Islanders who offered their support following this incident."

Anyone who experiences or sees hate-motivated behaviour is asked to report it to police.
