Non-Essential Shops Due To Reopen On 27 January

Non-essential shops in Jersey are due to be allowed to reopen on Wednesday 27 January, with close-contact services set to be given the green light to resume from Wednesday 3 February.

The government made the announcements on social media this evening.

STAC met on Monday 18 January to discuss whether to recommend allowing restrictions to ease further.

They analysed the current Covid-19 data, the reopening of schools and the Christmas period.

Ministers then discussed those recommendations today - and have given indicative dates for allowing certain services to resume.

Non-essential retail has been given a date of Wednesday 27 January, with close contact services such as hair and beauty services due to be allowed to reopen a week later.

The government says this remains subject to constant review of positive coronavirus case numbers.

11 new cases were detected over the last 24 hours, with active case numbers falling below 200.

A new support package for struggling businesses is due to be announced, along with the eased restrictions, in a media briefing tomorrow evening (21 January) from 7pm.
