Michael Rosen to appear at Jersey Festival of Words

Michael Rosen and a selection of some of his best-loved books

Author and poet Michael Rosen is appearing at this year's Jersey Festival of Words.

The former Children's Laureate, whose body of work runs to around 200 titles and includes the firm family favourite 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'The Sad Book', will be in the island in September.

Michael Rosen is also a popular broadcaster who has presented BBC Radio 4's 'Word of Mouth' since 1998 and is a prolific social commentator known for his monthly public critique of UK government education policy.

He will be talking about his new book, 'Getting Better', about coping with the death of his son and his recovery from a near-fatal COVID-19 infection.

He will also host a separate children's poetry event as part of the festival's programme for schools.

Festival chair Lucy Cotter says Michael Rosen's work has touched many people, so it's exciting that he'll be in Jersey.

"His appeal and influence spans the generations, from parents and children who have cherished memories of a ‘bear hunt’ to those he has profoundly moved with his words on illness and loss."

The festival will take place 20-29 September. Further details of the 2024 programme will be released in the coming months.
