Liverpudlian, 57, jailed for Jersey drug offences with £420K of cannabis seized

Jersey's Royal Court

Alan Leigh from Liverpool has been jailed for four and a half years for numerous drug offences in Jersey.

The 57-year-old was linked to the possession of 16 kilograms of cannabis resin through a police investigation.

Officers arrested Leigh in February 2025, and a further search of his vehicle uncovered 400 grams of cannabis resin and £10,500 in cash.

Leigh initially denied any intent to supply the Class B drugs, but told officers he was told to destroy them to pay off a debt he owed.

The police charged the Liverpudlian, and he appeared in the Magistrates Court on 14 February, where he pleaded not guilty to the intent to supply, but did admit the possession of drugs.

The Magistrates Court deemed the case too serious and sent it to the Royal Court.

During this time, police analysed Leigh's phone and found evidence linking him to the sale of drugs.

The 57-year-old changed his pleas after his indictment and admitted two counts of possession with the intent to supply cannabis and the possession of criminal property.

A drug expert estimates the total street value of the cannabis seized in this case is up to £420,000.

Detective Sergeant Jim McGranahan from the Drug Squad says individuals like Leigh come to this island and exploit others' suffering for their gain, while contributing minimally to the welfare of the community.

"Our team, the Drug Squad at the States of Jersey Police, continue to work tirelessly to prevent such activities."
