Jersey man with bone disease takes on triathlon

A Jersey man with with mobility issues is taking on a SuperSprint Triathlon to raise money for two island charities.

Nick Ozouf was born with a condition known as vitamin D resistant rickets, which causes weakening of the bones and mobility problems.

But he's not letting that stop him swim 400m, cycle for 10k and then take on a 2.5k final dash at Les Quennevais Sports Centre today, 7 September.

This is not his first challenge either. Nick, who was voted Inspirational Person of the Year 2023, previous pedalled 50 laps of the sports hall's cycle track on an adapted trike.

His fundraising target is £2000, which will be split between Acorn and Cycle Without Limits.

Both charities work towards enriching the lives of islanders with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

As well as raising money, Nick Ozouf wants to demonstrate the importance of inclusivity:

"People are only disabled if due to the environment or situation they cannot be involved or included."

"As a society we are striving for equality in all areas of life and this must include everyone who has a disability, no matter what it is."

"If we can provide the right environment, equipment and support to ensure that people with disabilities are always included, then we can ensure that they are not disabled."
