Jèrriais film set to hit the screens at 13th Parish Film Festival

Islanders will have the chance to catch the premiere of a Jèrriais feature-length film at the 13th Parish Film Festival.

‘À Bétôt Goodbye?’ is an intimate documentary about Jèrriais, the island's native language, following the voices of its last speakers and the growing fight to keep this piece of Jersey's national identity alive.

The film looks into the people who spoke and still speak Jerriais, and tells the story of how the language has been passed down through the generations.

However, with the island being close to losing this part of its essence, ‘À Bétôt Goodbye?’ explores the calls being made and how a new generation of enthusiasts, learners and speakers is taking on the challenge of keeping the language relevant in today's society.

Úna Langlois, programme director for the festival, says one of the founding aims of the 13th Parish Film Festival was to serve as an annual showcase for Jersey film makers.

"We are now more convinced than ever of the potential for the development of a vibrant filmmaking scene in Jersey."

Another highlight of the film festival is a documentary about challenging industry norms in the agricultural field.

'A Dairy Story' looks into the lives of two farmers in southwest Scotland, and how they raise their cattle in humane ways - with large-scale cow-and-calf husbandry methods.

It shows how changing a farming system changes everything, from the lives of the animals to the well-being of farmers and the future of the agricultural industry.
