Islanders 'pull together' to raise money for MacMillan Jersey

Islanders are coming together to raise money for MacMillan Jersey in the annual Rowathon.

Local businesses, community groups and organisations are ‘pulling together’ to support islanders affected by cancer.

Teams of six will be going head-to-head to row 30,000 metres on indoor rowing machines at the Radisson Blu today (7 March 2026), which is the distance between Jersey and Sark.

Kevin Alway, Operations and Communications Lead for Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey, says right now, fundraising has never been more important for local charities like theirs.

"Demand for our services continues to grow, and every pound raised through events such as the Rowathon has a real and direct impact on the lives of islanders affected by cancer.

"The funds raised don’t disappear into a pot – they enable us to provide practical advice for people affected by cancer, emotional support when the weight of a diagnosis feels too heavy, and wellbeing services that help people feel like themselves again during the toughest of times.

"When teams take part in the Rowathon, they’re not just rowing metres – they’re helping ensure that no one in Jersey has to face cancer alone."

Each team has been asked to raise £500 on top of their £500 entry fee, with full fundraising support and resources provided by the charity.
