Hunt For Missing Home Video

An islander is appealing for help to find a missing VHS tape after a mix-up at a St Helier photo shop.

Donna Gicquel de Gruchy has taken to Facebook in a desperate bid to locate her missing VHS videos.

Donna had dropped off her old VHS tape to Fotosound, curious to see the contents and hoping it would be footage of her late mother.

Nervous to potentially hear her mum's voice for the first time in more than 30 years, she sat down to watch the digital copy on the USB she had asked the shop to make her.

But she was shocked and upset to find she has received the wrong tape.

"I was a bit nervous to watch the video at first, as I thought it could contain videos of my mother. When I eventually sat down to watch the video, it was some guy's holiday in Canada in 2008!"

She is now using the power of the media to find the owner, in the hope they might have her tapes.

"I would be so relieved if I found the tapes. However, I have no idea what's on them. It could be a family holiday in Florida from 1989 or a house-moving video which my mum would definitely be on. This video has to be about 35 years old. But to be honest, I have no idea what I was going to get back."

The tape she received erroneously is titled "Canadian Trip 2008" showing a holiday to Canada and contains the name "John Milley". Donna has since returned that tape to Fotosound.

The title on Donna's original tape reads simply "Home Video".

Donna left her video with Fotosound at Charing Cross on Monday 26 July, and collected the Canada tape around Friday 30 July.

Did you pick up a USB from Fotosound during the week of 26 July? Have you checked the contents of your files yet?

If you come across a tape that isn't yours, get in contact with Donna on Facebook.
