HSBC Is Closing Two Jersey Branches

HSBC is permanently closing its Five Oaks and Halkett Street branches in 2024.

The banking giant has taken the decision to shut the two smaller branches following the re-opening of its flagship one on King Street, which is currently undergoing a seven-month renovation.

From January 2024, Halkett Street will close its doors, and Five Oaks will follow in August of the same year.

The bank expects no jobs will be lost as a result of the closures.

Cameron Senior, Interim Head of Wealth and Personal Banking HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, says the way people bank is changing, which is something the Covid-19 pandemic has only accelerated.

"We know from our review that the majority of customers have a preference to do much of their day-to-day banking digitally, and while we’ve seen a significant reduction in the number of customers using our Halkett Street and Five Oaks branches, we’ve developed a model that provides islanders with both the opportunity for face-to-face servicing as well as online banking products and services."

The St Brelade branch will remain open and could be refurbished towards the end of next year.
