Extra Police Presence This Christmas

Jersey police is increasing its patrols this festive period to keep partygoers safe.

Operation Visible has been running for several Christmas seasons, but 'tangible steps' are being taken to keep female islanders safe in light of the recent report into Violence Against Women and Girls.

The primary reason for the operation is to remind people about the importance of personal safety.

Examples are ensuring you know how you are getting home, charging your phone, and having extra money if you need to pay for a taxi.

Inspector Lynda Mckenna, who heads Op Visible, says they do not want to spoil the fun at Christmas, and this initiative is about keeping everyone safe.

"We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable night, and we’ll be out in those areas on the weekends talking to people and offering help, should they need it.

Op Visible is a proactive and collaborative effort to ensure the safety and well-being of our community during the festive season.

By working together with organisations, such as the Street Pastors, St John's Ambulance, Normandy Rescue and the Honorary Police, we aim to offer a reassuring presence and create a supportive and secure environment for Islanders."

St John's Ambulance and Normandy Rescue have also set up a base at Weighbridge between 9:00 pm and 3:00 am.

Islanders who need extra help can find it every Friday and Saturday night until 16 December.

Street Pastor will also be walking around town every Saturday from 11:00 pm until 3:00 am.

They will be there to provide medical assistance, reassurance, safety and support, alongside the Honorary Police.
