DFDS is buying the Stena Vinga.
The passenger and freight ship has been operating on the Jersey route since the ferry firm's contract began in March 2025.
It is chartered from Swedish operator Stena Line.
Mathieu Girardin, head of DFDS’s Ferry Division, says buying it strengthens fleet resilience:
"The ferry has proven to be a good fit for Jersey and has performed well during the charter period. Bringing it into our owned fleet is a natural step which supports our long‑term operations and commitment to serving Jersey.
We look forward to continuing to welcome customers on board and providing them with a reliable and comfortable experience.”
The Stena Vinga has principally been operating on the Jersey/Portsmouth route.
It is 125 metres long and can carry 400 passengers and 200 cars. It has a freight capacity of 1500 lane meters.
The ferry was built in 2005 and is equipped with 40 cabins, a restaurant, a duty-free shop, a cinema and a recliner lounge.
DFDS says the vessel will be reflagged under the UK flag, and renamed.
The sale is expected to be completed in November.
DFDS says it expects to create 70 positions as a result of the acquisition.
