DFDS puts end-of-year Jersey sailings on sale

People in Jersey can now book their Christmas ferry travel after DFDS put its long-awaited winter sailings on sale.

Islanders and Jersey's hotels and tourism businesses have been waiting for news of boats beyond the end of October.

DFDS published its timetable for the October half-term in early July so people could plan trips in the school holidays.

But many prospective passengers have been patiently waiting for details of travel beyond October, particularly Christmas and New Year.

Last week, Jersey Chamber of Commerce told Channel 103 it had impressed upon DFDS bosses the need for the schedules to be published as soon as possible, and it had been told it would be 19 August.

It is now possible to book ferries to the UK and France until early January.

Travellers can expect 118 departures from Jersey to the UK, and 110 freight crossings using the Caesarea Trader.

There will be 88 sailings to St Malo on Fridays through to Mondays.

There are daily crossings to Portsmouth, except on Sundays, although there are a couple of Sunday services over the festive period.

There will be no fast crossings to Poole after 2 November.

Chris Parker, Jersey Route Director, says DFDS' winter timetable is designed to meet demand while delivering a dependable service for islanders.

"Between November and March, we will be offering capacity for up to 77,000 passengers to travel between Jersey and the UK, and up to 134,000 passengers between Jersey and France, well above the historical demand for these services over the winter.

"We understand that this decision will impact islanders and disappoint some travellers, and we are sorry about the inconvenience this will cause.

"We are focusing on delivering a long-term sustainable service for Jersey, including investment in future tonnage for the island."

The ferry firm is still working on schedules for 11 January and beyond.

It expects there will be 850 crossings between April and August 2026 across the three routes to the UK and France.
