'Design code' being drawn up for Gorey Pier

People in Jersey are being asked for their opinions on how Gorey Pier should look in the future.

A 'design code' is being created for the area to unify the look of features such as benches, lamp-posts and even bins.

Gorey resident, Jennifer Bridge, says it will bring cohesion to the public realm:

"The pier itself is under Ports of Jersey (responsibility), whereas the area in front of the Dolphin (pub) towards the promenade is under Infrastructure (department's responsibility)

One of them has black bins, and one has blue bins. One has black lamp-posts, one has blue-lit lamp-posts.

Hopefully, you're starting to see the problem that we are trying to solve.

A community drop-in workshop on Tuesday evening (3 March) is asking people to say what they would like to see for the area.

"The area has started to look a bit tired with this mish-mash of bins, lamps and benches.

"The residents work so hard. The buildings are all freshly-painted and look fantastic, and then you look up and see the castle, which is one of the unique selling points of our island."

Ms Bridge says they want to develop a blueprint that brings cohesion to the pier's look and feel.

The meeting is at St Martin's Public Hall from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
