Deputy Ozouf to appear in court on immigration offences

Deputy Philip Ozouf will appear in Jersey's Magistrate's Court on Friday (11 July), charged with immigration offences.

The St Saviour politician has confirmed to the States Assembly that he is accused of breaching the Immigration Act relating to employing Rwandan nationals.

In a brief statement, he says he cannot comment further because of the active legal process, but that he will cooperate fully with it, and he expresses regret to the island's parliament and his constituents.

Deputy Ozouf said: "As a courtesy to the Assembly, I wish to inform members that I am due to appear before the Magistrate's Court this coming Friday.

"It is in connection with alleged offences under the Immigration Act as extended to Jersey, relating to the employment of Rwandan nationals.

"Given that this matter is subject to judicial proceedings, I will not be making any further comment at this time, except to confirm that I will co-operate fully with the process.

“As a long-standing Member of this Assembly, fully cognisant of the need to uphold the highest standards of conduct in both public and private life, I express regret that this matter has arisen and how it may reflect on this Assembly.

"I express a similar regret to my constituents in St Saviour."

The Justice and Home Affairs department told Channel 103:

“The Jersey Customs and Immigration Service can confirm that two men who live in Jersey have been charged with immigration offences.

The two men will appear in the Magistrate’s Court on 11 July 2025 to answer the charges.

No further comment will be made by JCIS regarding this case, now that charges are in place.”
