Cost Of Living Up 4.3%

The cost of living in Jersey rose by 4.3% in the year to September.

That is compared to 4.5% in June and 3.2% in March 2018.

The small drop is being put down to lower fare and travel costs, and less sharp price rises for motoring, household and leisure services.

But it still reflects the highest rate of annual increase in the cost of living in 6 years.

According to Statistics Jersey:

Housing costs rose by 6.5%, driven by increases in the Bank of England base rate.
Motoring costs rose by 4.9%, with petrol and diesel 12-13 pence higher than in September 2017
Food prices increased by 3.1%
Clothing and footwear say a 3.5% drop in prices
