Children's charity to donate 10,000 books in 2026

Every Child Our Future is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026 by donating 10,000 books and supporting community initiatives to improve access to reading.

The Jersey-based charity has been providing children with the opportunity to access education, laying the foundations they need to shape their futures.

From this week, the first hundred books will be distributed to 10 classrooms across the island as part of the 'Big Book Giveaway'.

All of the books donated have been published within the last 10 years, and children will be encouraged to vote for their favourite just before the spring half-term.

Cris Lakeman, CEO of Every Child Our Future, said, reaching our 10th anniversary is a proud moment for everyone involved with the charity.

"Through The Big Book Giveaway, we are hoping to inspire a generation of lifelong readers."

Children across the island will also be offered a total of 10,000 hours of reading support as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Every Child Our Future is also supporting the roll-out of 'Little Libraries' across the island.

The idea comes from former Education Minister Rod Byrans, who wants to see better access to reading within Jersey's communities.

People will be able to borrow books from the libraries and donate to them to share books they have enjoyed.

The children's charity will donate the initial books and help to keep them topped up regularly.

Continuing with the theme of 10s, the charity has launched its '10 for 10' monthly giving scheme, inviting islanders to donate £10 a month for 10 months.

Donations can be made through JerseyGiving, with Every Child Our Future offering updates and stories on how their contributions are making an impact in the island.
