Children to receive art therapy at Centrepoint's new outdoor classroom

Children will be able to express themselves through art therapy lessons in Centrepoint's new outdoor classroom at La Pouquelaye.

Primary-aged children in Jersey will be able to receive therapeutic art and outreach sessions from the new project.

They will receive help with emotional, behavioural or additional needs in a calming, sensory setting through REACH@Centrepoint art sessions.

Mel Le-Cornu, Nursery Manager and Wellbeing Supporter through art, say there is a growing need for outdoor learning following the pandemic:

"Integrating the creative and artistic side with sensory development and sensory experiences is very much part of the child's well-being and ability to cope and regulate with the world around them."

GR8 Recruitment is helping to part-fund the outdoor classroom.

The estimated total for the space is £12,000, which Centrepoint will continue to fundraise, ahead of a hoped September opening.

Initially targeted at children supported by the charity, there are hopes that eventually the project will be available to schools and nurseries across the island.
