Jersey's Chief Minister has given his thanks to Sir Keir Starmer, following his resignation as Prime Minister.
He announced his departure outside Number Ten this morning, admitting that he wasn't the right person to lead the Labour Party into the next general election.
He'll remain PM until a successor is appointed.
In a statement, Senator Lyndon Farnham said:
"I have seen the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning.
"I am grateful to Sir Keir Starmer for his engagement with us and his support of our interests since his election in July 2024. I have met the Prime Minister on several occasions, including at two Summits of the British Irish Council, and I wish him the very best for the future.
"Jersey maintains a broad range of relationships within the Labour Party and across the UK Parliament more generally. It is important that we continue to engage positively with the Government, given the importance of our relationship with the UK, and I look forward to working with the new UK Prime Minister and Cabinet in due course."
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch is calling for a general election, as is Reform UK's Nigel Farage.
Andy Burnham, who is being sworn in as the new MP for Makerfield today, is the heavy favourite to replace Sir Keir Starmer.
Former UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who was seen as the main rival for the top job, is backing the former Greater Manchester Mayor for PM.
