Certain Premises Told To Stay Closed

The Health Minister has signed an order to prevent certain businesses from trading until 11 May.

It's to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Until now, there have been 'voluntary restrictions' on some shops and service providers operating, with those considered essential allowed to.

The following public-facing businesses and premises are now ordered to stay shut:

* Amusement centres and mini-golf courses

* Art galleries, libraries, museums and any property owned by Jersey Heritage

* Buildings used to host auction houses or betting agencies

* Buildings used for spas, nail salons, beauty salons, waxing salons, tanning salons, hair laser removal, tattoo or piercing parlours or massage parlours, barbers, hair styling or the professional application of makeup.

* Entertainment facilities

* Indoor recreation facilities

* Nightclubs

* Outdoor playgrounds and gym equipment in public places

* Public swimming and paddling pools

* Soft play centres

* Retail premises (subject to Article 4(1)(g))

Article 4 of that order also lists which businesses can stay open for certain purposes, which includes a limited number of retailers:

* Boarding houses, caravan parks, camping grounds and hostels for housing permanent residents of the boarding house, caravan park, camping ground or hostel.

* Commercial accommodation for housing (including providing food and drinks) to people who are employed or contracted to work in Jersey for a purpose relating to the Covid-19 outbreak.

* Community centres who provide free services to help vulnerable members of the public - such as food banks, blood donations or services providing for the needs of homeless people.

* Food and drink premises to sell food or drink for people to eat/drink off-premises.

* Golf courses - only for people to play golf in open spaces.

* Markets to allow food and drink premises and permitted shops to open for the reasons given above and below. 

* Permitted shops to sell the goods and merchandise they normally sell.

* Places of public worship to conduct a funeral service or a marriage.

Shops defined as permitted are:

* Drycleaners

* Garden centres

* Hardware and building supply shops that sell goods and materials for constructing and maintaining buildings and nearby outdoor areas

* Newsagents

* Off-licences

* Pharmacists and chemists

* Post offices

* Service or fuel stations

* Specialist bike sale and repair shops

* Specialist mobile phone retailers

* Specialist office supply shops (e.g. stationery, printers, computers)

* Specialist pet shops

* Supermarkets and corner shops

* Vehicle repair premises

* Vehicle sale or hire premises
