Buses miss stop after cars block route to Bouley Bay

Honorary Police in Trinity have blasted drivers who blocked access to Bouley Bay with their badly-parked cars.

LibertyBus was forced to pull all its services out of the bay for a time on Sunday (16 August) because it couldn't get its vehicles down the hill.

Route 4 had to skip stops at the popular beauty spot on the island's north coast.

With temperatures of around 27 degrees Celsius across the weekend, thousands of islanders flocked to the coast.

Trinity Honorary Police posted on social media, saying they know people want to cool off and enjoy the bay but urging people to use their common sense.

The post continued:

"And WHY do people move the police cones out of the way to park????? THEY ARE PUT IN PLACE FOR A REASON - which today has proven. What if it was an emergency vehicle that been unable to get down the road?

"We have a duty of care to ensure everyone's safety, please don't make it more difficult for us."

Kevin Hart, boss of LibertyBus told Channel 103:

"This happens in other location across the island.

"We just want people to go out and enjoy the weather, but catch the bus, or if there is no parking there, have some common sense and park somewhere else.

"With wildfires at the forefront of everyone's attention, if it had been a fire engine trying to get down there, it would have been a real, real mess."

It's not the first time this summer that Honoraries have had to warn beach-going drivers about bad parking. In June, people heading to St Brelade's Bay were reminded about not taking their car onto the beach without a permit.
