A Million PCR Tests Carried Out In Jersey

The Health Minister says one million PCR tests have been carried out since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The island's Covid-19 testing programme reached the milestone this week, with the officials awarding staff with certificates recognising the occasion and their hard work throughout the pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, tests have been carried out at the airport, harbour, workplaces, homes, care homes and other parts of the community.

Deputy Richard Renouf has paid tribute to the hard work of everyone who works - or has worked - as part of Jersey's Covid testing programme since March 2020.

"This milestone is an excellent opportunity to thank all the staff past and present who have been involved in the testing programme.

My gratitude goes to all the staff in the COVID Safe team, including those working at the borders, staff at the testing centres, contact tracing, and those working in the HCS laboratory.

They have all been a vital part in protecting the community and ensuring positive cases are quickly identified, therefore ensuring infection spread is reduced."

Mandatory self-isolation for anyone who tests positive with a PCR test is due to remain in place until the end of March.
