Six In Ten Adults Given First Vaccine Dose

Six in ten Jersey adults have been given a first coronavirus vaccine dose.

More than 30,000 people have now got both jabs. 82,738 vaccine doses have been administered, as of Sunday 25 April.

Jersey has a rate of 76.75 doses per 100 in the population, which is behind Wales but ahead of Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.

84% of 65 to 69-year-olds have got both doses, along with 50% of 60 to 64-year-olds, and 53% of 55 to 59-year-olds.

60% of adults have got their first jab, with 35% receiving both.

93% of care home residents and 89% of care home staff have got both vaccine doses, along with 76% of high-risk islanders and 59% of islanders defined as being at moderate risk of becoming ill if they get Covid-19.

An announcement is due early next week on when people in their 30s can book their first appointment.

"The weekly statistics are consistently showing us that the vaccination rollout is making positive progress. I am pleased that 3 out of every 5 adults have now received their first dose.

"I’m also pleased that we are continuing to see high uptake of the vaccine as we continue to move down the age groups. This positive community-wide response will help us protect all Islanders and I urge everyone to continue attending their vaccination appointments when they are invited to." - Deputy Richard Renouf, Health Minister.

The head of Jersey's Covid-19 vaccine programme says they will give booster vaccines if they are recommended by industry professionals.

The UK has ordered 60 million more doses of the Pfizer vaccine as the government there puts together a booster programme for the autumn, with the most vulnerable groups across Britain due to be offered another shot before next winter.

Becky Sherrington says Jersey is working with Public Health England, and they're ready to look at plans when they're ready based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
