Suggestions to get more Guernsey youngsters to vote

The final report into the June '25 election warns that voter registration, especially youngsters, needs to improve.

The section of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association responsible for the Channel Islands has nine recommendations to improve democracy in its final report on Guernsey's latest election.

Observers were in the island ahead of June 18 and on the day scrutinised the election process, which they concluded was well run.

However, there are concerns around voter registration and the number of young voters engaging in the electoral process.

52% of those eligible signed up to the roll, the lowest number in a quarter of a century.

The CPA report suggests they are targeted using social media and school and wider campaigns well ahead of the 2029 poll.

It also suggested that Guernsey explore having an electoral roll that is continuously updated, rather than having to register before each election.
