States of Alderney statement on Gaza

Alderney joins Guernsey in highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The three main islands of the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey have now expressed their view on the continuation of the war in Gaza and the current famine.

The States of Alderney issued a brief statement on 30 July, aligning itself with others calling for an end to the suffering of the people of Gaza:

'The States of Alderney endorse the compassionate message from the government of Guernsey in highlighting the humanitarian situation in Gaza
alongside the numerous other humanitarian crises in the world, and the commitment to upholding the principles of International Law.'

It comes after Jersey's chief minister wrote to Sir Keir Starmer last week.

Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, Guernsey's senior politician, followed suit after a letter signed by 12 deputies asked her to register Guernsey's protest at the inhumane conditions in the territory.

Internationally, France, Britain and now Canada have said they will formally recognise Palestine as a state, with conditions.
