Puffin Parade Planned For 2023

Puffins will be on show across Guernsey as a charity new sculpture trail is planned for 2023.

Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA are working together on the 'Puffin Parade'.

60 four feet tall sculptures of the rare seabirds will be displayed around the island from April 2023.

That is the month the puffin returns to the Bailiwick's shores to breed.

They will be on show at various locations until the end of next summer, then be auctioned to raise money.

It follows the success in 2021 of the Guernsey Goat Trail, which raised £80,000 for Autism Guernsey and the Guernsey Adult Literacy Project.

“The Puffin Parade will be similar to the Goat Trail but will comprise 4' Puffins instead of goats.

We received fantastic feedback about the Goat Trail and we are hoping that the Puffin Parade will be even more successful in 2023.” - Mandy Rowlinson, Autism Guernsey.

The GSPCA's involvement will coincide with the charity's 150 anniversary of helping animals in Guernsey, including puffins.

“This spectacular event will be a great celebration of our 150th anniversary in the Island.

Puffins are a comical looking bird which many islanders really love and we are looking for businesses or groups to sponsor each of the 60 puffins.” - Steve Byrne, GSPCA.

Organisers of the Puffin Parade are also looking for local artists, community groups and schools who are interested in painting one of the fibreglass models.

Each puffin will cost £1,000 to cost and transport.
