How Guernsey Is Marking Liberation Day

Parish parties, a cavalcade, and live music are all a part of Guernsey's 2023 Liberation Day celebrations.

Events are taking place across the island on Tuesday (9 May) to mark 78 years since Guernsey was liberated from German Occupation during the Second World War. 

Victoria Tower will sound the air siren at 8.55am before a wreath-laying at the War Memorial at the top of Smith Street.

The Military Parade and Inspection along the seafront will begin at 10am.

It will be followed by Music at Castle from 11am till 4pm.

The cavalcade will start its coastal journey from Rue des Monnais, Torteval, at 1pm.

The Liberation Concert on the Crown Pier kicks off at 5pm and runs until 9.15pm. The event will feature the D-Day Darlings, Guernsey's Jazz Orchestra and Big Band Collective,  and will be followed by fireworks from Castle Cornet.

Numerous other events are taking place in the parishes, including:

The Castel is hosting a family fun day at the Vazon Dune Lane from midday till 3pm.

The Forest is hosting a party at the Mallard Field from midday till 7pm.

St Andrew’s celebrations are being held at The Last Post from 11am till 10pm.

St Martin’s residents are welcome to the Parish field from 11.30am till 3:30pm.

St Peter Port is running a Family fun talent show in Market Square from 2pm till 4.30pm.

St Peter’s residents are gathering at the L'Eree Common and Beach 11.00am until 9.45pm.

Vale’s tea party is taking place from 2pm at the Vale Douzaine Rooms.
