High Tide Closes St Peter Port Seafront

An exceptionally high tide means Police have closed the Town Quay to cars.

The high tide this morning (12 March) was 10.3 metres at 07.58am. Tony Rive sent Island FM these pictures:

It meant that sea water overtopped the St Peter Port Quay and lapped across the road to threaten the restaurants and shops.

Most of these old warehouse buildings have flood defence barriers to defend them from events like this.

Given that cars driving through would exacerbate the situation, Police closed the main seafront for an hour.

From the harbour, the end of the Albert Pier looked like an island.

The Bridge too saw an extremely high tide overlap the road on the Southside.
