Guernsey Post launches world first 'Cyberstamps' rather than 'Cryptostamps'

Stamp collectors can now move into the digital age with the new, verified way of storing stamps.

It's a world first for collectors, and dons the iconic Royal Golden Guernsey.

Two stamps are available: a nanny and a billy goat.

However, each Guernsey cyberstamp package includes:

One limited-edition cyberstamp - Billy Goat or Nanny Goat.
One exclusive souvenir sheet featuring the two official postage stamps depicting Billy and Nanny with a special cancellation mark —exclusively available with this release.

Owners can activate their digital goat collectable, each with different traits, accessories, and even a personalised story, making every goat one of a kind, with its own ranking in the global rarity statistics - common, rare or legendary.

Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, says moving online is just a natural progression.

"A lot more things are going on online, collecting images, collecting images, whether it be stamps, Pokémon cards or NFTs.

"We want to try and have that halfway house where we have the traditional and digital collector range, so we can reach more people."

People who buy the stamps will receive a physical copy to keep in their own albums and a cyberstamp, which will be kept securely online.

Collectors will be given a verified stamp, with a code, which can be added to a special album on the Guernsey Post website.

It comes after the idea to introduce NFTs was shelved due to issues.

Bridget says the Financial Commission classified them as virtual assets, which, due to licensing complications, Guernsey Post cannot do at the moment.

"Although our legal interpretation differed, we were unable to move forward, so we've come up with this alternative approach."
