Gusty winds see flights into Guernsey stop early

The first autumnal gales end flying early at Guernsey Airport on Sunday (29 September).

Gale force 8 winds gusting to 55 mph from the south to southeast forced airlines to cease flying early yesterday.

Flights were cancelled after 5pm, with only Aurigny's GR607 from Gatwick initially cancelling, then landing just before 7pm, the last of the day.

The airport is operating more like normal this morning, but the Alderney flights are cancelled.

However, there is disruption for ferry passengers with all boat services to and from the island cancelled, including freight.

The Rue du Manoir in the Forest was closed briefly yesterday after winds felled a tree just after lunchtime.

Strong winds are set to continue today, from a south westerly direction, with gusts up to 45 mph.

Drivers should take care as the winds have scattered small branches and leaves across island roads.
