"Protect our Posties and Protect Your Pets," that's the message from a new safety campaign.
Guernsey Post is launching a new community safety campaign today (29 June) aimed at reducing dog-bite incidents affecting postal workers.
Leaflets through letterboxes, and a social media video will remind pet owners to secure their pet before answering the door.
For the past two years, Guernsey Post has recorded at least two bites a month and countless near misses.
Health and Safety Manager Shelley Carberry says the campaign is not about blaming dogs, but encouraging owners to be proactive.
"I don't ever want us to come across like we are anti-dog because we love dogs, and a lot of us have got our own dogs.
"This is purely just raising awareness and just kind of letting people know that this can be a problem area for us.
"We just want to work together to avoid the dog getting stressed, as well as obviously helping our staff at the same time."
Shelley says the rule applies regardless of the dog's size or temperament, because bites can have a serious impact.
"Where there is a bite, and it's punctured the skin, a lot of our postal workers do need to attend A&E.
"They do need to ensure that their tetanus is up to date, and they also have to take a course of antibiotics.
"So we really want to try and avoid that."
