Guernsey FC thrill the capacity crowd with a Ross Allen goal and a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park.
The pressure was on Guernsey FC to impress at the new home of Guernsey football with the inaugral game against higher placed Westfield.
The stadium at Victoria Avenue was sparkling in the strong spring sun. The all weather 3G pitch pristine green.
Officials and local football royalty were there early, ahead of the official opening by Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor, Richard Cripwell:
"Guernsey has developed a transformational stadium. A very special place that I think, that has the potential to bring people to Guernsey to celebrate and use these absolutely world class facilities."
He cut the tape, toured the ground and pulled a pint at the Nutmeg bar.
Victoria Park looks impressive but it is also about practicality. The 3G pitch is world class, the sort of surface used in FIFA World Cup qualifiers and UEFA Champions League Games. It will enable football to happen no matter how wet the Guernsey weather gets.
The stands seat 600 and Victoria Park welcomed 2,207 fans on match day against Westfield.
They thrilled to see Ross Allen, Guernsey FC's record goal scorer, become the first ever goal scorer at the ground after 37 minutes.
It was his 350th appearance for the side.
Westfield equalised in the second half. There were six minutes of injury time and the game ended 1-1.
Guernsey's School of Popular Music laid on the entertainment, the Nutmeg bar was packed and a great afternoon out was had by all at Victoria Park.
