Guernsey footballer goes from Green Lions to Three Lions

Alex Scott's England call up is more proof that grassroots football in Guernsey produces international quality players.

22-year-old Alex Scott has been selected by England manager Thomas Tuchel for the final two World Cup qualifiers of 2025 - but there is no guarantee he'll get to go on the pitch.

The men go up against Serbia in London this evening (13 November) with a 7.45 pm kickoff, and are away against Albania on Sunday (16 November).

The Chairman of the Guernsey Football League, Andy Robert, says Scott's journey from grassroots to Wembley is inspiring.

"It just shows if you do dream and you want to achieve you can, because it has been done.

"Clearly Alex is not the first one, with Maya Le Tisser also coming through local football and now playing regularly at women’s Premier League and of course at national level for Engalnd too.

"Sometimes you get knocked back, sometimes you get injured, sometimes you get some bad luck or good luck, but at the end of the day it is hard work and perseverance and the support of everybody around him that counts."

If Scott comes off the bench tonight, he will be following in the footsteps of Guernsey's Matt Le Tissier and Jersey's Graeme Le Saux.

The midfielder has been training at St George's Park, and gave his first press conference where he reflected on his journey from non-league football in Guernsey to his international call-up, and the support he gets back home.
