Guernsey chippy announces closure

The owners of Beetons say they have made the 'emotional' decision to close at the end of June.

Kim and Andy Ashplant took over the St Peter Port fish and chip shop from Andy's parents in September 2000.

25 years later, surviving staffing challenges, rising costs, and the pandemic, the couple have decided to retire.

Both now in their 60s, they say they want to have more time to relax and see friends and family.

Saturday 28 June 2025, the takeaway will close its doors for the final time.

Kim says they are grateful for their regulars' support, and wanted to give them a heads up.

"We have the same people coming every day or once a week because they’ve been doing some sports or something.

"Those are the people that we want to let know what is happening.

"I'd like to thank everyone for supporting us for all this time, and I could get emotional because I will miss you all."

She says they've crunched the numbers.

"Andy reckons he’s cooked about 1.3 million fish, about 5,000 tons of potatoes, and sausages we can't think how many, but it would be a few million."
