Guernsey's Animal Shelter assisted a farmer in retrieving a young calf from a water filled quarry.
On Sunday (26 July), the GSPCA was alerted to a stranded calf at the water's edge of the Guernsey Sea Farms quarry at Bordeaux in the Vale.
The Shelter's Luke Roussell was called to help the farmer, who was already there, to get the animal into the boat that's moored in the quarry, and back to safety.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne says despite its unexpected adventure, the calf was unharmed:
"By the time Luke arrived, the farmer was already assisting the calf, and together they were able to get it safely back onto land.
"Thankfully, the calf appeared none the worse for wear after its ordeal and was quickly reunited with the rest of the herd.
"Every week we are called out to help everything from horses and farm animals that have escaped from fields to pets in difficulty and wildlife in distress.
"Over the years we've had some unusual cases too, including a herd of cows that effectively handed themselves in to us, as well as lost goats and even a horse that wandered into our car park looking for help."
