Guernsey businesses encouraged to use the daily St Malo ferry for European imports

The Chamber of Commerce will advise Guernsey businesses how to go about importing a range of French goods.

Guernsey's Chamber of Commerce is hosting an online seminar to explain to local businesses how to make the most of the trade route with France.

The conference on 3 February will explain customs paperwork and procedures to import goods straight from mainland Europe, via the daily St Malo ferry.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Alice Gill says they want to demystify the process.

"It is something new.

"Our trade route generally, people import via the UK, which has a different customs process, and post-Brexit, there are different things that we need to think about if you're importing via Europe.

"We're just here to help people, make it easy, so we can make the most of that trade route."

She says members from the hospitality, catering, and construction industries will attend the call.

"Having a freight option every day, what can we bring in?

"Does it mean we can bring in food, bring construction material through - will that help reduce the cost of construction?

"There is a whole world of opportunity that we need to help make it easier for businesses to do that process."
