Five more years of boating lessons for Bailiwick schools

School children across the Bailiwick will continue to get free boating lessons for the next five years.

An Education, Sport and Culture committee grant to the Guernsey Sailing Trust has been renewed.

It means the charity will continue to deliver sailing, powerboating and other water-based tuition to around 2,500 States' school students each year.

The trust provides tuition though schools, after school clubs, community and outreach groups and holiday courses and enables pupils to work towards RYA accredited qualifications.

In 2024, students from every school in Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark spent time with the Trust.

4,608 total school sessions were delivered, including 523 ‘Sailability’ sessions, a programme that enables people with disabilities to get involved in sailing through the use of specialist equipment.

Also last year, the Trust employed 62 people under the age of 21 to support the delivery of their programme.

They also took on volunteers working towards Duke of Edinburgh requirements.
