'Dream come true' England call-up for Guernsey's Alex Scott

Alex Scott at the England press conference.

Guernsey's Alex Scott could become only the third Channel Islander to play for England’s men later this week.

The 22-year-old Bournemouth midfielder was selected by Thomas Tuchel to join the senior squad for Thursday's World Cup qualifiers against Serbia on Thursday and Albania on Sunday.

He arrived at the England camp yesterday, to a warm welcome:

Scott then took part in his first England press conference with the men's senior squad at St George's Park.

He told reporters his selection was a 'dream come true':

"I'm over the moon. It is everything I dreamed for back then.

"Six years ago I was playing non-league football for Guernsey and I wasn't even sure if I was going to make it as a football player, so to now be in the England senior team is a dream come true."

Age 16, Scott signed for Bristol City, getting his first professional contract with the Championship club in March 2021.

In August 2023 he completed a permanent transfer to Premier League side Bournemouth,  and went on to win two titles with England's Under19s and Under 21s at the Euros in 2023 and 2025.

Asked about potentially making the World Cup squad for next summer's tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA, Scott said:

"Obviously that is the dream for everyone, especially the players here, to be in that World Cup squad.

"I just want to come in and show what I can do and how I can play in an England shirt. I am just grateful for the opportunity.

"I have got to take it one step at a time.  If I get the chance to play, hopefully I can impress and show what I am capable of."

Scott said was thrilled to be following in the footsteps of Guernsey's Matt Le Tissier (eight caps, 1994-1997) and Jersey's Graeme Le Saux (36 caps, 1994-2000). He was also asked about his Lioness step-sister Maya Le Tissier:

Of the support back home in Guernsey, Scott told reporters:

"Everyone is so close there.  You almost know everyone.

"It's nice for people back there to see a fellow islanders to go on and be successful, and it gives them the motivation and the courage to go on and so the same."
