68% of Guernsey post boxes set for removal

Guernsey Post proposes to reduce the number of roadside post boxes to 45, in response to a significant decline in usage.

Guernsey Post has announced plans to remove 96 of the island’s 141 post boxes as it looks to keep the business lean.

The company says the changes reflect evolving customer habits and are designed to ensure postal services remain 'efficient, sustainable and fit for the future.'

Usage data shows that the majority of the boxes earmarked for removal receive around five items a day.

Islanders have 4 weeks to comment on the proposals, beginning 15 August.

The 96 affected post boxes (and the additional three selected for relocation) will be signposted during this time.

Guernsey Post Chief Executive Steve Sheridan says they plan to retain boxes in key community locations, such as shops and banks.

“We recognise that this proposal may be met with understandable reservations from some customers, and we want to assure everyone that this decision has not been taken lightly.

"We are committed to consulting carefully with the public before making any final decisions.

"This proposed change reflects how people are using our services today and supports our goal of operating efficiently while maintaining accessible and reliable postal services.

“The consultation is a genuine opportunity for the community to influence the outcome.

"Our goal is to make thoughtful, informed changes that allow us to serve the island effectively now and into the future.”
