£22m Children's Services hub plans advancing

Guernsey's States will be asked to approve a new hub for Children's Services, costing up to £22 million.

Health and Social Care is progressing plans to bring children's health, social care and family support services together in a single place at Raymond Falla House.

Lukis House, Swissville, Garden Hill and Perruque House could be made available for housing.

The committee says it will be cheaper to run, with fewer maintenance costs for the ageing building, and it will better for families who often have to move between locations to access services.

The proposed Children’s Services Hub would be a modern base, bringing professionals together to offer 'more effective intervention for those who need it most'.

If the States agrees the Policy Letter, a business case and designs will be drawn up.

Deputy George Oswald, President of the Committee for Health & Social Care, said:

“The Children's Services Hub will put children, young people and families at the centre of our services’ delivery. Many of the buildings currently used to provide children's services were not designed for the way modern services operate and are increasingly unsuitable for delivering the high-quality, integrated support that children and families deserve.

"By bringing key services together in a purpose-built environment, we can improve access to support, strengthen collaboration between professionals and create facilities that are welcoming, accessible and designed around the needs of children.

"The Committee sees this an investment in better outcomes for children, both now and in the future.”
