Hospital Closes To Visitors & Events Cancelled After Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Islanders are being told to cancel any planned events and gatherings after four new coronavirus cases were discovered in Guernsey last night.

Health officials say 'it is not immediately clear' how the four people contracted the virus, as none of them have recently travelled off-island or been in contact with anyone who has.

Contact tracing is being carried out to determine if the new cases are a result of community transmission.

The Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, says anyone planning events or to attend any kind of gathering should cancel their plans.

Guernsey's care homes and the Princess Elizabeth Hospital have closed to visitors, and social distancing measures are being re-introduced as precautions.

The Civil Contingencies Authority is meeting today, and is due to hold a media briefing at midday.

You can listen to it live on Island FM.
