The Queen came to Guernsey in 2001 at the start of a two-day state visit to the Channel Islands. Wearing an apple green outfit (green is Guernsey's official colour) the Queen acknowledged the waiting crowds with a royal wave and a smile. She walked on a green disinfected mat which was laid for continuing precautions against the foot-and-mouth outbreak.
