Jersey 'Ready For Brexit' 

A series of special events explaining Jersey's Brexit preparations is underway.

Ready for Brexit week includes seminars, workshops and Q&As with Ministers at locations across the island.

Around 300 people were due to attend the launch.

Talks will include updating islanders on the various exit scenarios and the ongoing work with the UK government.

Throughout the week there is the chance to hear how we will be affected by passport changes and post-Brexit travel with pets and how resident EU nationals can register their right to remain here under the Jersey-EU Settlement Scheme.

Businesses can find out more how imports and exports will be impacted.

UK MPs are due to vote on Theresa May's Brexit deal on Tuesday.

External Relations Minister Senator Ian Gorst has told Channel 103 he is concerned about the impact that a no deal Brexit will have on Jersey.

It comes after four UK councillors wrote to the UK Transport Secretary, worried about food and important medicines getting to the Channel Islands if a deal isn't secured with the EU.

"It's why we are working with the UK Department for Transport, the Department for Health, local retailers, haulage companies... to ensure that as far as possible we can mitigate any potential  - and they are only potential - difficult effects of a potential no-deal Brexit".

Senator Gorst says it was always going to be a tumultuous process;

"We would prefer an ordered exit from EU, but the important thing for us is that we have plans in place to mitigate any difficulties."

Asked by Channel 103 how he would vote if he were an MP in the House of Commons on Tuesday

"..my view remains this... that the withdrawal agreement on the table is good for Jersey, and good for the Channel Islands."
