Power Station Chimney Maintenance

Scaffolding's been put up around one of the Power Station's older chimneys.

Guernsey Electricity is carrying out planned maintenance and repair work on the C station chimney stack on Northside.

The company tells us that C-Station was built in the late 1970s and it needs some repairs to keep it safe and operational. It is still used when power is generated in Guernsey, as opposed to taking electricity from the undersea inter connector from France.

Guernsey Electricity says older parts of the plant generally cost more to maintain.

The Environment and Infrastructure Committee is currently preparing an Electricity Strategy to be debated by the States that will shape future investment decisions.

It was due to be published earlier this year but has been delayed by a number of weeks.

In the meantime, Guernsey Electricity says it will continue to invest where it believes that a failure to do so would risk its ability to maintain a secure electricity supply for the Island.
