Alastair Chalmers fell at the 7th barrier in tonight's Olympic semi-final in Paris (7 August).
The 24-year-old finished last in the third heat of the men's 400m hurdles, after failing to clear the 7th barrier.
The Guernsey man got up and finished the race in 56.52 seconds.
He is the first Guernsey person to qualify for Great Britain's athletics team for an Olympic Games since Lee Merrien in London 2012.
Tom Druce from Guernsey Athletics says Alastair should hold his head high.
"He is operating in probably the most competitive sport, and he has managed to get through to the semi-finals.
We couldn't be more proud of him.
I've been in this job for about a decade now, and he has always been around the club, and to see him go and achieve this has been outstanding.
He has worked so hard, and is such a great example to a lot of young athletes on the island."
