ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO GET A LIBERATION HOLIDAY
There is set to be another attempt to get a public holiday for islanders to celebrate Liberation Day.
It falls on a Sunday this year and St Brelade deputy, Montford Tadier, wants the States to debate making Friday the 7th of May a day off.
It comes a week after policitians voted against giving us Monday the 10th off.
Deputy Tadier says the public has shown how strongly they feel about the issue.
He is hoping it will be debated at the next sitting on February 23rd.

MARITIME COMMUNITY IN MOURNING

A harbour pilot and popular member of St Helier Yacht Club, he was known to all in the island's maritime community.
During his time as coxswain he was awarded three medals and two bravery awards for rescues he made that undoubtedly saved lives.
Former Habourmaster Roy Bullen says his contribution to the RNLI was 'exceptional'.

£370K DRAINS UPGRADE
Motorists face weeks of disruption on the Ring Road at Rouge Bouillon as more work is done to upgrade town sewers.
A new surface water sewer is being laid between Queens Road and Raleigh Avenue.
The result will be separating foul sewerage and surface water to reduce the risk of human waste washing into the sea in stormy weather.
It all mean the drains are able to cope better when more new homes are built in the area.
We don't yet have details of the road restrictions there will be, but the sewers work is due to start on 2nd April.
With gas diversions needed first, it is likely to mean weeks of disruption.
It will cost more than £370,000. That money is coming from fund aimed as creating jobs in the recession.

MINIMUM WAGE RISE 'NOT ENOUGH'
There is a call for Jersey's mimimum wage to rise to £6.28 an hour.
That is eight pence more than the figure being recommended to the States.
£6.20 was suggested by the Employment Forum as the rate that should take effect on 1st April.
Deputy Geoff Southern says it needs to be more to protect the lowest paid.
He says anything less is a backward step based on the level of increases in previous years.
