Four Jersey seal pups to set sail and return to their seas

The GSPCA has revealed that four Jersey seal pups are ready to set free in their local waters.

Didier, Maya, Faulkner and Jem the Jersey seal pups, rescued from our beaches in November and January, can return home.

The Guernsey animal welfare charity has been bringing them back to health and, with Condor's help, will be sending them back to their local waters.

The seal pups have tripled and even quadrupled in size but will need some donated mackerel or herring for their long trip.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, says Geoff, Head of Marine Mammals, and the team are the busiest they have ever been in the charity's 151-year history.

"We have never, ever, had 10 at one time before.

"It is fabulous news that the 4 Jersey pups Didier, Maya, Faulkner and Jem are ready for release, it has been a long road but they look so well.

"This is the first time since pre covid that we are able to get Jersey seal pups back to be released in their waters where they were rescued."

GSPCA is also asking for donations to help with their care and to look after the other seal pups at the shelter.
