Hundreds March For Civil Servants' Pay

Public sector workers have marched through St Helier to celebrate the services they provide for islanders.

It's part of the ongoing dispute between workers and the States Employment Board, with unions protesting the below inflation pay offers given to staff.

Scores of civil servants and their supporters marched from Howard Davis Park to the Royal Square yesterday.

A number of States Members turned out, with some making speeches to show their support for Jersey's civil servants.

Housing and Children's Minister, Senator Sam Mezec, confirmed another proposition would be lodged to free up money for pay awards.

It's after his Reform Jersey colleague, Deputy Geoff Southern, had his plans narrowly defeated in the States Assembly last year.

Unions and the SEB are now in a mediation process to try and resolve the pay dispute.
